About Monroe Trades

Hi, I’m Patrick Glynn, Founder of Monroe Trades.

The name “Monroe Trades” is a nod to a nearby street — and to the idea of being a man of all trades. I’ve always been someone who’s happiest when building, fixing, solving, or helping. Over the years, that’s meant everything from designing custom furniture, to helping neighbors repair fences, milk cows, or teaching my daughter to ride her bike. You can often find me walking the dog with my wife or helping our daughter learn something new — recently it’s been building and riding skateboards. That hands-on, all-in mindset is what shaped my life and, eventually, this business.

The Spark of Inspiration

The idea for Monroe Trades hit me while I was working as a bellman at the Ace Hotel in New York City. I was helping guests with their luggage—many of them fashion designers—and I kept seeing high-end garments being transported on flimsy, cheap rolling racks. It felt like serving a gourmet meal on a paper plate. That disconnect between design and presentation stuck with me.

From Apartment Projects to Etsy Success

At the same time, I was building shelving and storage solutions for my small NYC apartment. A coworker suggested I try selling on Etsy, and I listed a few of my handmade racks. Soon enough, my industrial-style designs started gaining attention. Fashion brands, boutique stores, and showrooms in the NYC garment district began ordering from me, and I realized I could turn this into something real.

Roots in Madison: Embracing ADHD and Dyslexia

I was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, where I spent most of my childhood outdoors building, biking, and skateboarding. School was always tough—I later learned in my 40s that I have ADHD and dyslexia. Over time, I realized those challenges are actually my superpowers. My ADHD keeps me constantly moving—making, fixing, and problem-solving. My dyslexia helps me think visually. I see ideas in 3D, rotating and adjusting them in my head. I don’t need a sketchbook—every design and solution is mapped out mentally.

If I’m driving, mowing the lawn, or trying to sleep, I’m probably designing or troubleshooting something in my head. I’m wired to stay busy and genuinely enjoy helping friends, family, and neighbors with projects. I have a strong memory for faces and details, but don’t ask me to remember a name or the grocery list my wife gives me!

A New Chapter in Vermont

Life took a big turn when my wife, called with life-changing news—we were starting a family. Around the same time, I lost my studio because the building was being sold. That sealed the deal. We left the city and moved to Vermont into a house with a workshop, where Monroe Trades became what it is today.

Commitment to Quality and Customer Connection

Now, I create high-quality industrial-style fixtures and storage solutions for businesses and homes across the country. What started as a side hustle in a small apartment has grown into a business supplying showrooms, trade shows, boutique stores, and homes. My focus remains the same: creating durable, stylish pieces that are built to last.

I’m easy to reach 7 days a week—call, text, email, or even send a smoke signal 🔥. I’m usually in bed by 8 pm and up by 4 am. If you reach out, I’ll answer or get back to you within 10 minutes. I’m always happy to take on custom work, whether it’s a single item or a large-scale order.
